Niowase (におわせ)is a relatively new word. It’s a internet slang .
It’s implication of having relationship especially on SNS. Young people tend to do it on SNS these days.
におい is smell. You can notice something by its smell, a gas leak or mom preparering meals, or something like that. You can also notice that your friend has a new girlfriend by smell. In this case, the smell is unfamiliar objects such as a necklace, or earrings, whatever romantic things are.
We call it “niowase” especially done on SNS. People often post photos that show parts of their lover’s bodies like holding hands. Posting photo is just an example. Sometimes it’s mysterious poem. It’s interesting because it’s like a code that often appears in conspiracy theories. I don’t Understand why they make high level tricks just to indicate having a lover. Maybe they just want a thrill.
I don’t know much about physoclogy behind it. But sometimes “niowase” tend to stir emotions. It would be taken as bragging then negative feelings as jealously would arise. Young woman tend to fight with each other. No offence intended, but it’s a world that men can’t compete with, as it can be very subtle and insidious at times. I don’t mean to say that is only a woman’s case, a man would do the same, but men are not smart enough to survive the harsh world. I think this is a kind of morbid phenomenon created by SNS. I think everyone is going a little crazy because of social media.
リア充 (ria-ju) is another word that has something to do with this topic. Its a internet slang as well. リア充 is people enjoy their life especially with thier lovers. Dating is good. Going shopping is also good. Watching a movie is good, But “with someone”. That’s important. To me, college students often use that word “リア充”. They jorkingly say “I wanna the guy explode” when they see a nice couple. This is “リア充爆発しろ”. I just laughed when it even came up as a keyboard conversion candidate.
